Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Tech Projects

At the start of the trip, the Raise Em Jay 2012 campers were divided into teams of two or three with the goal of creating a multi-media presentation by the end of the week. Each team was responsible for documenting their experience with the latest digital photo/video equipment and daily journal entries, all while pushing themselves to their limits on the slopes. Although it was no easy task, each team worked tirelessly and finished their projects by the deadline. Here is what they created:

Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Day Three

By Maya Stay

Day three was our second day on the slopes. A lot of us were still a bit wobbly on the board and had a while before we got to leave the bunny slope and go to the “big boy” slopes. Not much else happened on day three besides a whole lot of crashing into each other.

Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Day Two

By Maximo Morel

We woke up this day with a very straight forward goal, get on the slopes. We had our first of many busy mornings, we had to quickly get up, make breakfast, and pack the vans for our quick trip to the rental shop. When we got to the international room, we had a quick circle and off we went to get our gear.

When you got in, all you saw was a group of kids lined up against the benches, putting on their snowboarding boots, and grabbing their snowboards as they headed out to the magic carpet.

When we got out we had a quick intro by the instructors, and then off we went to snowboard. But this day was not all fun and games.

Here is a little story, a momentous event that took place on that adrenaline appetizing day. The legendary Maximo Morel, looked up at the snow covered sky with a look of complete determination in his eyes. He triumphantly boarded the chairlift, with his board hanging from his feet, snow pounding on his face, he remained indifferent. He had the song Requiem for a dream, playing in his head. With ease he got of the chairlift with swagger. He headed down the mountain with pure confidence that even his turns made the snow jump into the air. All was good, he completed his first run with ease. His heart pumping, fingers shaking, a sweaty face, and blushing cheeks from the cold weather, he went back up for another take on the mountain. He again triumphantly went down, but half way, he met a very daunting trail. The snow was very uneven, being home to natural hills that when overlooked, shot the snowboarder up into the air. But Maximo paid no mind. With a swift movement of his feet he headed down hill, making quick turns left in right, the snow shot up beside his face, but he carelessly overlooked a hill, the hill shot Maximo up into the air, with his arms flailing in the air like spaghettis, he was defeated, for as he came down, trying to brace himself, broke his hand. Even with this injury, Maximo did not fail to continue his journey to awesomeness, he still participated in all the events, and made his time worth the while. He lives on, and his hand is well.

Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Day Four

By Maya Stay

Day four was the day we went to the maple farm and had awesome pancakes!! (Pocket breaking the record by eating 7 1\3 pancakes) We went around the farm seeing cows being milked, and how maple products were made.

After our visit to the farm we headed back to the condos and backed caused soon later we went up to the ski patrol lodge at the top of the mountain. We had spent the night up at the lodge. Our day up there was spent with snow fights, the building of a quince, indoor picnics, star gazing and lets not forget the story time and musical act of Cristina.

We slept on the floor in our sleeping bags (some of us slept outside in the quince). In the morning a very few of us woke up and saw the beautiful sunrise. One you’ll never be able to see or imagine living in New York.

Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Day Six

By Maya Stay

Day Six was the day of the “wonderful” hike up Jay Peak. It started with us waking up at 5:30 (early right!?!) We had our breakfast then headed out as soon as we could. The hike started at the bottom lift of the flier and went ALL the way to the top where the ski patrol lodge was. It took us a total of 3 hours. It was a very hard yet also fun hike. The steeper the mountain got however the harder and more tiring it was to climb.

When we got to the top we had our lunches and relaxed in the lodge. A few minuters later we took the lift back down the mountain and got to work on our projects and got one more day of boarding back.

With projects done and our boarding needs satisfied we showed each others our projects and had a “little” party before we headed back to the condos for our rest for we had left the very next morning

Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Day Five

By Maximo Morel

Day 5 was one of the best to be honest. We struggled to get up as our bodies full of pain. A handful of us had slept outside in a quincy, which had an unleveled icy-floor, and the rest slept inside on a very uncomfortable carpeted floor. We woke up to a room filled with misplaced backpacks and loud snores.

We had a very quick start to this day, as we were given a very short time span in which we had to get our gears ready for the tram, and clean the place up in less then 40 minutes. When the tram arrived, we loaded our gear and took it back down. On our way down we gazed at the glossy snow top one last time before the hike that awaited us the next day. At the distance we could also see the tallest mountain in New Hampshire.

After we got back down from the tram, we tossed our gear outside, went to our condos to quickly change as we had an afternoon of pure fun waiting for us. When we gather our bathing suits, we had a short drive to the new Jay Peak waterpark.

After a few hours of splish splash fun, we headed to the arcade and then went back to our condos for some nice teck-session fun.

Raise Em Jay Camp 2012: Day One

By Maya Stay

Day one was the day we all came over to the center ready to start our journey to Jay Peak. There were two vans and Craig’s car. The kids were split into the vans according to their group. Angie’s and Geo’s van (swagger wagon) had the most space while Cristina’s and Andrew’s van was very crowded.

It took us 10 hours to get to the Burton snowboarding factory where we learned how a snowboard was made manufactured and designed. After our tour of the factory we headed straight to Jay Peak (which took us an hour).

When we reached Jay Peak It was nearly 12am — when we left CI it was10:30 am. We had reached our destination and were ready for our adventure to begin for we knew what happens through out the week will stay us for the rest of our lives.

Trailblazer Trip

Today me and our group from CI went hiking. First we all went sledding and we had to work together to get to the rope. Our next activity involved a lot more logic & movement than the first challenge. After completing the first 2 challenges we all helped push each other to climb a wall & then took group shots. After all of that we went back to the cabin to drink hot chocolate and met up again with the group from Kingsbridge. Then we switched Trails. Gaby was the lead of our group to the campsite & we met up with Mike at the campfire to roast marshmallows & eat lunch :D. Before we ate lunch we did a chow circle. Down by the lake me & Ivo were trying to catch salamanders & he gave up but I continued to try & I caught a Tadpole. We couldn’t get a picture of it because it needed to be put back in the water & we didn’t want it too close to the campfire. We sat around the campfire & ate our lunches. We brought the rule Leave No trace & everybody contributed and cleaned up. After we finished cleaning up we put out the fire with water & took another group picture and followed the trail back to the cabin. I thought Gaby was going to get us lost when we followed her back up the trail. When we got back to the cabin we played a game of blob and Jazheel won. The Kingsbridge group was coming back up from doing the challenges and we had started a game of Ninja Slap but didn’t get to finish it. After we all took group pictures & left our instructors for the day we headed back to the bus to go home. The bus ride was almost exciting I tried to sleep mostly but continued to be woken up.

TrailBlazers trip 3-10-12

Today I tried something new. It was my first day at CampInteractive and we went to Trailblazers Camp. During the trip I realized a few things, one thing I realized was how much fun nature can be. Instead of staying home and playing video games I went out and was able to communicate and be active with fun and knowledge I was able to pick up during the journey. The experience was a special one because we are not told to work as one as much as it should be told. I also learned that there is no limit to what you can do when teamwork is applied. If you don’t give up or give into failure you will succeed. I was able to get the most out of the trip because every one was equally included just as a camp should be.

Rock climbing at Brooklyn Boulders

This was a rock climbing extravaganza. This is an experience that anybody would never forget. Me and the CatRock team went to Brooklyn Boulders an amazing indoor rock climbing gym that anyone would have a blast at. Despite the fact that we had to be at the center at 6:30 in the morning it was worth the loss of sleep. We got there around 8:00 to our teams first site of this fantastic site of myriad of walls for me and my team to conquer, struggle, and triumph. First as soon as we arrived we got sited up to climb a wall. We had a great instructor named COON he was great at instructing us on our technique first we had to learn the figure 8 knot and how to tie it to our harness. After this lesson we learned the amazing skill of belaying the trust leadership and attention it takes to belay and trust the person that is belaying you. Once we got this skill down pact we had the day to explore. This is a really great environment for all ages that allows you to push yourself to beyond your limit. First wall I tried to Climb was a bouldering wall which was a great first starter because it’s just you and the wall no ropes no anything there was many bouldering sites for my fantastic team to conquer. All catRock members attempted at bouldering and climbing walls we had the trust , strive, energy, and positive attitude to try something new and succeed. Last but not least I would like to acknowledge my team Catrock which consisted of Me, Diego, Juan, Jose, and Lisandro and our great staff Craig, Angela, Sarah, and Kara.

An experience I won’t forget

Yo it’s Lisandro here and I just came back from one of my best experiences indoors. I just came back from rock climbing at Brooklyn Boulders run by an amazing guy named Lance. There are so many wonderful pieces of art which really surprised me since well it’s a rock climbing place, but I guess you can’t judge a book by its cover. Some guy named Koon taught us the ropes and helped us when we climb the wall and when you’re on the ground doing something that is called belaying. It was a fun experience climbing even though I didn’t make it to the top but I was so close. After that we had free time and did what we wanted to do as long as we had a partner. My favorit part of it was the bouldering which is you climbing a rock without any ropes supporting you incase you fall. You feel so free when you have nothing supporting you. There were definitely a lot of fails but still worth it. I also learned how to make a figure eight knot which wasn’t has hard as I was making it. After Koon showed one of us something on the bouldering section and then he fell. He faked himself getting hurt which scared us. To summarize this day its definitely one I won’t forget. Well I’m out peace.

Pre Ice Skating Blog Post

Yo! This is Diego coming to you live from CampInteractive all pumped for this Ice Skating/Hiking trip at Bear Mountain this Saturday. Just knowing that I’ll be able to escape from the urban jungle to Mother Nature for a day is something that always makes my day. I’m expecting a lot form this trip. For one, I’m stoked to see how some of the newer students of CampInteractive do on this trip, especially on the ice skating rink. Second off, I’m ecstatic to see how well my ice skating skills have improved and or worsened, as I haven’t ice skated in quite a while and I feel that it’s about time I get started once more. Anyways, I’l leave things off with that and all I can say is that this hike shall be one to remember!

Another wonderful day

Today Camp Interactive and a few students from Kingsbridge High School had the chance to to go ice skating and to the zoo on bear mountain. What I learned today its that it doesn’t matter how your day begins, if you are with your friends your day will get even better. Also through taking pictures I realized that people don’t appreciate the beauty of our world. While taking pictures I felt happy because I had the chance to capture the beauty of the world that we live in.
